Albert B. Maggio, Jr., is Of Counsel to Carey, Rodriguez, Greenberg & Paul, LLP, a boutique law firm focusing on intellectual property transactions and litigation and other complex commercial litigation. He is also the principal of Scopra, a consultancy focused on providing ethics, compliance, due diligence, and IP verification services to technology, venture capital, and investment banking firms.

Mr. Maggio holds both Series 7 & 66 securities licenses. Prior to founding Scopra, he was a financial advisor with Merrill Lynch and UBS in Palm Beach. Mr. Maggio was formerly head of finance, administration and law for a California software company and during the course of his 16 year legal career, served as a trusted advisor and legal counsel to the management teams, board members of, and major investors in, several venture-backed and public companies, including Netegrity (acquired by CA), SpeechWorks (acquired by Nuance), Unveil (assets acquired by Microsoft), Kavado (acquired by Protegrity), and InterSec Research (acquired by State Street Bank). Prior to his admission to practice law, Mr. Maggio held sales and management positions with several major computer companies, where he was responsible for managing relationships with their largest accounts.

He is currently the president of the South Florida Technology Alliance (SFTA) and co-chair of its Entrepreneurship Committee. Mr. Maggio is an executive committee member of the MIT Enterprise Forum of South Florida and a board member and secretary of Il Circolo – The Italian Cultural Society of the Palm Beaches.

He is a Fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, former chair of the Business Law Section Council of the Massachusetts Bar Association, co-editor of The Business Law News of the Business Law Section of the State Bar of California, and adjunct professor of ethics and business law at Atlantic Union College. He is listed in the 9th edition of Who’s Who in American Law and is a speaker and published author who has also been quoted in Business Week Online, The Boston Globe, and The Recorder (CalLaw).

Mr. Maggio received a J.D., cum laude, from the New England School of Law, an M.B.A. in international marketing management from the Lubin School of Business at Pace University and a B.S. in marketing and international business from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
